Creating an Agency

From the menu select:    Settings > Agency

The Edit Properties form opens to edit the Agency.

There are a number of elements that define the new AP to complete to create the new profile:
Field Mandatory? Explanation

Identifier Yes A URI Reference which identifies the agency, e.g. http://myagency/
Name Yes The Name of the Agency
Description Yes A description of the Agency
Home Page No A human-readable document that provides more information about the agency



Creating a new Application Profile (AP)

From the menu select:    File > New > [select required AP]

The Edit Properties form opens to create a new AP of the type selected.

There are a number of elements that define the new AP to complete to create the new profile:
Field Mandatory? Explanation

Title Yes The name or title of the AP
Version Yes Version number of the AP
Status Yes A predefined menu of values is provided:
  • Private
  • Working Draft
  • Proposed Recommendation
  • Recommendation
  • Standard
Description Yes A summary of the scope and purpose of the AP
Specification / Guidelines No A human-readable document that provides more information about the AP
Has Binding schema No If it exists, the URI of the binding schema used by the AP
From RDF Data Source No The URI of the existing RDF Data Source if the new AP references one



Creating a New Metadata Vocabulary

In the Client click on the Advanced tab, then click on the New icon , then on the Select Choice form, click on the Create a new Metadata Vocabulary option for the required Application Profile type.

The Edit Properties form opens for the New Metadata Vocabulary.

There are a number of elements that define the new Metadata Vocabulary that need to be entered:
Field Mandatory? Explanation

Identifier Yes This is a unique identifier of the Metadata Vocabulary and by default is generated from the Agency Identifier and a randomly generated number.
Title Yes The name or title of the metadata vocabulary
Version Yes An indicator of the version of the metadata vocabulary
Date Modified No The date on which the metadata vocabulary was last modified
Status Yes A predefined menu of values is provided:
  • Private
  • Working Draft
  • Proposed Recommendation
  • Recommendation
  • Standard
Description Yes A summary of the scope and purpose of the metadata vocabulary
Specification / Guidelines No A human-readable document that provides more information about the metadata vocabulary
XML Namespace Name No The preferred XML Namespace Name to be used when encoding terms from this vocabulary in an RDF/XML document
XML Namespace Prefix No The preferred Namespace Prefix to be used when encoding terms from this vocabulary in an RDF/XML document
From RDF Data Source No URI of the RDF Data Source the Metadata Vocabulary references



Creating New Property Usage Properties

In the Client click on the Advanced tab, select the required Application Profile,
then click on the Edit button on the bottom right.

The Edit Properties form opens for the Edit [AP Type] Property Usage Properties.

There are a number of elements that define the proerties to enter on the form:
Field Mandatory? Explanation

Label Yes A human-readable label assigned to the property, in the context of this AP
Subject Type Yes A class which is the type of resource to which these constraints on the property apply
Status Yes A predefined menu of values is provided:
  • Private
  • Unstable
  • Testing
  • Stable
Definition Yes A statement of the concept and essential nature of the property, as it is used in this AP
Comment / Usage Note No Additional information about the property or its use specific to this AP
Specification / Guidelines No A human-readable document that provides more information about the property usage
Obligation No An indication of whether a statement using the property is required to occur when describing this subject type in a metadata record conforming to this AP.

A predefined menu of values is provided:

  • Mandatory
  • Optional (Recommended)
  • Optional
  • Conditional

Condition No A description of the condition or conditions according to which a statement using the property should be present when describing this subject type in a metadata record conforming to this AP
Max Occurance No The maximum permitted number of occurrences of statements using the property to describe this subject type in a metadata record conforming to this AP



Edit Property Properties

In the Client click on the Advanced tab, select the property to be modified, then click on the Edit button on the bottom right.

The Edit Property Properties form opens for the selected property.

There are a number of elements that define the proerties to enter on the form:
Field Mandatory? Explanation

Identifier Yes Unique identifier of the property

Is this the same as the URI Reference attribute in the Property definition?

Label Yes A human-readable label assigned to the property
Status Yes A predefined menu of values is provided:
  • Private
  • Unstable
  • Testing
  • Stable
Definition Yes A statement of the concept and essential nature of the property
Comment / Usage Note No Additional information about the property or its use
Specification / Guidelines No A human-readable document that provides more information about the property
Range No A class of which values of this property are instances
Domain No A class of which a resource having this property is an instance



New Class Encoding Scheme

In the Client create new Metadata, select it and click on new Class / Encoding scheme.

Identifier Yes URI reference that identifies the class
Label Yes A human-readable label assigned to the property
Status Yes A predefined menu of values is provided:
  • Private
  • Working Draft
  • Proposed Recommendation
  • Recommendation
  • Standard
Description Yes A description of the property and what it is used for
Comment / Usage Note No Detailed notes about the property
Specification / Guidelines No URI to the specification or guidelines for the property
Subclass of No A class of which this class is a subclass
